GoodBye to Our Musical Fountain

SINGAPORE : After 25 years of splashing entertainment, the Sentosa Musical Fountain staged its final two performances on Monday evening to a sell-out crowd.

In its heyday, the fountain drew over 1.6 million guests each year, and was one of the biggest outdoor fountains in the region.

The Sentosa landmark even played host to top world leaders in 1996, during a gala dinner at the World Trade Organisation Ministerial Conference.

Taking the place of the Sentosa Musical Fountain is a brand new S$30 million night attraction by the sea.

Its laser lights, colour and water jets may look similar to its predecessor, but the show called "Songs of the Sea" is staged right by the beach.

It is also the world's only permanent outdoor show staged in the sea.

Sentosa says the show is set in a village, inspired by Singapore's history as a fishing village.

"Songs of the Sea" is designed by Yves Pepin, the Artistic Advisor for the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The show will be opened to the public from Tuesday.....Taken Out from ChannelNews Asia Webby...
